Is there a difference between demo accounts and real accounts?

A question that every short term forex trader needs to know. When I practice on my demo account provided by my forex broker, is this demo or practice account the same as a real account?

Thinkforex broker is different
by: Fritz

I was talking to staff at www.thinkforex.com and they advise that their demo account setup is different to that of other forex brokers. As they are STP/ECN brokers their demo account trading is the same what you get for the real money account. They said that "everything" is the same for demo and real accounts.

This is an excerpt from their frequently asked questions page;

Q: Is there any difference between the demo account and live account?

A: There is no difference in our demo account and our live account. You can expect the same spreads, speed and execution when trading live.

Yes, there is a difference with nearly ALL brokers

At fxcm, the data feeds are the same for both demo and real accounts, however order executions or fills are different.

Real account orders need to match buyer and seller for the transaction, whereby demo accounts do not have this limitation and can be executed at the exact price each and every time.
